K&S Market, Inc., is a San Benito County based family owned business started by Phil Klauer in 1938.  The focus of the business was an independent Supermarket operation.  Phil's three sons Ken, Frank, and Ron all served in the U.S. Military then became involved in the family Supermarket business.  Frank Klauer launched the company in a new direction with purchase and development of commercial properties.  Over the years, K&S Market, Inc., has founded and operated K&S Supermarket, the local Pinnacle Newspaper, fast food restaurants, dollar stores, furniture stores, Maytag Laundromat, retail office product stores, a Hallmark store, wine grape vineyards, and the acquisition of many commercial buildings and shopping centers.  

As of February 2000, K&S Market, Inc. sold its grocery business to Safway, Inc., and fazed out all of its retail operations.  At that  time, most family members left the company and moved on to pursue other interests.

Today, K&S Market, Inc., dba: K&S Properties & Realty, continues to be family and employee owned (ESOP) and operated by third generation family members.  K&S Properties & Realty manages a portfolio of company owned commercial real estate in California, Nevada, Idaho, Colorado, Texas, and Alabama.  K&S Properties & Realty also maintains a California Department of Real Estate License and offers professional and competent  Commercial and Reidential real estate property management, sales, and leasing services.
